How Rest and Affiliate Marketing Can Help Mums Thrive

Being a mum often feels like an endless juggling act, right? Between school runs, housework, and work (plus the actual job), it’s easy to forget about the importance of rest. This week, I found my own little slice of calm in the Scottish Highlands – hanging out with Highland cows, exploring castles, dolphin watching, and rediscovering the joy of just being. It made me realise how much we need rest for busy mums like us and how affiliate marketing for mums can help make working from anywhere a real possibility. Here’s how this trip changed my perspective – and why I’m on a mission to bring more rest and freedom into my life!

This week, I swapped the chaos of home life for the Scottish highlands – where Highland cows roam with better hair than any of us, dolphins wave hello in the bay, and the castles are straight out of a bedtime story. And let me tell you, it was magical.

Even though I was still cooking, cleaning, and keeping the family in check (because let’s be honest, mum life doesn’t stop for holidays!), everything felt so much easier. There’s something about slowing down and spending time together that just makes the world feel right again.

We spent our days hiking up hills that left me breathless (partly from the views, partly from my not-so-stellar cardio fitness), wandering through ancient castles while the kids pretended to be knights and princesses, and whiskey tasting (which, by the way, tastes even better when you’re surrounded by history and rolling hills).

The highlight for me? Watching my daughter build sandcastles on the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen, while I tried (and failed) to understand what the friendly Scottish man was saying. I think I agreed to take a sheep home at one point, but I guess I’ll find out in the post next week!

The truth is, before this trip, I was exhausted. Like, crying-in-the-car exhausted. The endless cycle of school runs, housework, and juggling work left me feeling like there was never enough of me to go around. But up in the highlands, surrounded by nature and my family, I found a little piece of peace.

And you know what I realised? I want this feeling all the time – not just for a week. I want to work from anywhere, spend more time with my family, and have the freedom to slow down when we need it most.

That’s why I’m diving deeper into affiliate marketing. It’s something I can do from anywhere (even from the beach with my toes in the sand), and it’s perfect for mums like us who are always on the go.

It started small for me – sharing links to things that made my mum-life easier. Like this reusable travel mug that kept my coffee hot while we dolphin-watched or these waterproof hiking boots that saved my socks from the Scottish drizzle – honestly, a game changer when you’re chasing kids over wet hills!

Bit by bit, those little shares turned into commissions. Nothing crazy at first – just enough to cover the kids’ ice creams or a bottle of that whiskey we tasted (priorities, right?). But it’s growing. And every pound earned online is another step towards living life on our terms.

So if you’re a mum feeling like you’re drowning in laundry and packed lunches (I see you, girl!), know that there’s another way. Affiliate marketing isn’t just for influencers – it’s for real mums who want to carve out a little freedom for themselves and their families.

If you want to see how I’m doing it (and how you can too), I put together a quick guide here: My Affiliate Starter Guide. It’s full of tips, real-life mum hacks, and all the ways I’ve made this work around my family.

Because at the end of the day, life is too short to spend it crying in the car. Let’s create a life we actually want to live – with more rest, more laughter, and more family time.

Catch you soon, probably from another castle (or at least from my kitchen table with a coffee in hand)! 💛

  1. Hi Sarah – I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland… now I REALLY want to go to Scotland! Thank you for sharing your tales and your adventure. I completely cracked up when I read it, “I think I agreed to take a sheep home at one point, but I guess I’ll find out in the post next week!” Thank you for being real with your reasons why you are on this quest in affiliate marketing. Whether one is a busy mom, and overworked and sometimes underpaid employee, or an active grandparent, this business can give one freedom and you demonstrated this with this post. Thank you for continuing to share your adventures and to share what you have learned as you progress in your business. But thank you especially for being transparent and providing the full picture. Have a fantastic week!

    1. Thank you Ernie. We really enjoyed our trip- we all feel a bit “home Sick” and want to go back to our cottage! My daughter has asked if we could consider living up there so there is some food for thought. Lots to look forward to!

  2. I had a good laugh “I think I agreed to take a sheep home at one point, but I guess I’ll find out in the post next week!” You and Ernie always make me smile!

Yes rest is my favorite pastime. I discovered a cool productivity hack this week called brain.fm. It’s an app with electronic music that’s been tested to produce brain waves for “getting shit done.” I notice it helps flagging moods and makes me feel like dancing, Michael Jackson-ish. It’s instilled hope into my everyday internet activities. Maybe I should see if they have an affiliate link!!

    1. Thank you so much Kate. I’m going to give this a go- it sounds fantastic, something that I definitely need. I really appreciate you passing on this tip!

  3. Hi Sarah,
The first thing I was wondering was what a Scottish cow looked like compared to our Canadian ones? LOL! (Then again, maybe their accent is different?)
All kidding aside, one of the best things of being able to rest is being able to see where you’re at and how you can go forward in a more productive way. At least, that’s been my result for the past months.
We all want to get there but if we get there half-alive, it isn’t worth the trip!
Great post and definitely brought a smile to my face (hopefully you’ll be able to better understand the sheep if it arrives!)

    1. Thanks Marc. I just googled a Canadian cow, they are actually different and their accents would definitely differ! lol
You are 100% right. I don’t want to retire in my dream location, I want to enjoy the most of it while I can! Thank you so much for reading my blog post, I really appreciate the kind comment.

  4. Absolutely loved this, and wow—I felt every word. The way you captured the exhaustion so many of us mums and caregivers feel (especially the crying-in-the-car part—been there) and then contrasted it with the peace of the highlands was just beautiful. It’s such a powerful reminder that we don’t have to settle for burnout as the norm. I’m so inspired by how you’re creating freedom through affiliate marketing without sacrificing family or joy. Thank you for sharing not just the magic of your trip but the real, doable steps you’re taking toward a more intentional life. Cheering you on—wherever your next castle (or coffee) takes you! 💛
