Rediscovering Your Inner Pirates and Unicorns For A Dream Life

Remember when we used to see the world through kaleidoscope eyes? When a cardboard box was a spaceship, a comb was a microphone and a paper crown made you royalty? So, what happened? When did we trade in our pirate hats and unicorn horns for spreadsheets, a mountain adventure of laundry and “To Do” lists as long as the tallest giant in town?

I recently watched “IF” (Imaginary Friends) with my daughter. If you haven’t already, please take the time to watch it. It’s incredible- A real tear jerker at times, but that’s only because I’m getting older and seem to cry at anything! It’s about children growing up and forgetting their imaginary friends and trying to re unite them with their special person. A feel good film. However it got me thinking……..

The Great Imagination Heist

At some point, someone must have whispered, “Time to grow up,” and we listened. We swapped fairy tales for tax headaches and let the daily grind dim our technicolour dreams. Life, with its deadlines and responsibilities, started feeling like a never-ending to-do list. We were once encouraged to believe in everything, and then reality hit like a pie in the face. Life beats us down, we get up again and then suddenly something else happens.

But here’s the thing: We don’t have to settle for a life we didn’t aspire to. Seriously! Our imagination is not gone; it’s just been on a long coffee break.

Living the Dream

Living a life we truly want starts with giving ourselves permission to imagine again. We don’t have to be confined by what’s practical or expected. Let’s break free from the mundane and inject a little magic back into our days.

So, let’s grab our imaginary swords, hop on our unicorns, and set sail toward the lives we’ve always dreamed of. Because why settle for anything less than extraordinary?

Imagine Your Perfect Life

Start with the basics: What would your dream house look like? A cozy cottage by the sea or a sleek, modern penthouse? Picture it vividly. Maybe there’s a slide instead of stairs (because why not?) or a library straight out of Beauty and the Beast.

This would be my dream home. Somewhere quiet near the beach.

And the car? Forget the sensible sedan. How about a cherry-red convertible or an eco-friendly Tesla? Feel the wind in your hair as you cruise down the coast.

The Extras: Because You Deserve It

Wouldn’t it be great to have a cleaner or gardener or BOTH! Imagine a spotless home and a blooming garden without lifting a finger. Spend your time sipping margaritas, not scrubbing floors! Then when we get really imaginitive we could even get a chef- No more “What’s for tea?” questions.

Consider your daily routine. What if your morning started with yoga on the beach, followed by a gourmet breakfast prepared by your personal chef? Sounds dreamy, right?

 Why Not Now?

Here’s the thing: We often think these dreams are unattainable, but they’re not! With a bit of creativity and planning, you can start living parts of your dream life now.

Steps to Start Living Your Dream Life

  1. Vision Board It Up: Cut out pictures, make Pinterest boards, or doodle your ideas. Visualizing is key! Dont roll your eyes at this. I did first, but it’s actually a fun activity.

  1. Set Goals: Break your dreams into small, actionable steps. Want a new car? Start a savings plan today.

  1. Invest in Yourself: Take courses, learn new skills, or start a side hustle to boost your income. I invested in myself originally buy buying a book. This book got me hooked by allowing me to change my mindset. It showed me that I am in control of my own life and I can make changes for a better future. HERE is the book that started my journey.

  1. Declutter Your Life: Get rid of things and habits that don’t serve you. Make space for new opportunities. Cancel those subscriptions that you didn’t realise you were paying for. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be paying for channels you don’t watch NOW but you paid the subscription because you just HAD to see what Ted Lasso decided to do with his life!

  1. Network and Connect: Surround yourself with people who inspire you and can help you reach your goals. I am part of the Affiliate System Community. It honestly started as a community but some are now turning into family. Click HERE to see what I have to say about my community experience.

Keep Pushing Your Happiness

Remember, we’re not here for a long time, so why not make it a great time? Stop settling for a life that doesn’t excite you. Every day is a chance to take a step toward your ideal life. Dream big, live boldly, and sprinkle a little magic wherever you go. Saying “Yes” more can surprise you and lead you to your dream life.

You CAN have your dream life, you just need to plan for it- and I can help you.

  1. Hello – This post literally made me smile. As I get more tenured and my years seem to advance quicker along with the graying of my hair, I truly appreciate the times when I was carefree and could dream. But as you hint in this post, why stop dreaming? They may be different dreams or possibly the same but why did I stop? I use the excuses like I’m getting too old or it’s not practical or it’s silly or I can’t do it and a whole lot of other “or” excuses. You know, lately I have taken on the attitude of realizing that one of the reasons we grow old is to remember what it’s like to be young and act on those things that we dreamed about. I’ve started to do that as I just posted it in a blog a little similar to what you posted today. Not quite the same but taking action on a dream. When I read your Steps to Start Living Your Dream Life I was looking for one that I could start immediately. However, I realized I needed to do all the things you suggest. I love your statement” Our imagination is not gone; it’s just been on a long coffee break.” This has more truth for me now than ever. Thank you for your post as it reminds me to keep dreaming and maybe to take action on those Dreams.

    1. Thank you as always for your lovely words Ernie. You do have a gift to encourage me on my journey. You are not too old to follow your dreams, and I cant wait to see what you do next.

  2. Imagination is key! I’ve been studying the art of storytelling in the world of business, and find it easy and playful to combine fun with work. Everything is fun, and that’s a lovely mindset to have!
Einstein was big on imagination. In fact it is said he literally dreamed the Theory of Relativity and had another mathematician create the equation.
Success is dependent on dreaming outside the box!!

    1. We can live whatever life we want to live. It’s a wonderful world and we just need to work towards what we want. We will get there. One day, I will be writing my blogs from a little seaside cottage happy as a pig in muck! lol

  4. There are times I see people doing something, or living somewhere, and I’m thinking I wish I could do that. Then I think, why can’t I? There are so many things we can do, if we just chose to do them, they aren’t beyond us. If we have the opportunity be doing what we really want to do in life, why would we settle for living a life we don’t really want?

    Make it happen.

    1. YES! This is exactly how I feel. Thank you Nathan, you’re comment really made me smile. We can do whatever we want. We put our own blockers in the way, It’s crazy

  5. What a refreshing and inspiring post! Your call to rediscover our inner pirates and unicorns really hit home. I think it’s so easy to get bogged down by daily responsibilities and lose sight of those vivid dreams we had as kids. I loved how you linked this back to watching “IF” with your daughter—it’s amazing how a movie can reignite those long-lost dreams and remind us of the importance of imagination.

Your ideas on visualizing our ideal lives are spot-on. Creating a vision board is such a powerful tool. I recently did this myself and found it incredibly motivating. !!! It’s amazing how seeing those images and writing down our dreams can bring clarity and inspire action. When I am working, I look up, and it is right there to help me keep going. Plus, if you visualize things down to a very detailed level, manifestation starts to happen. I especially liked your idea of breaking down big dreams into actionable steps. It’s a practical approach that makes those lofty goals feel more attainable, and, in today’s busy world, it takes the overwhelm away, knowing you just have this small task to complete each day.

Thanks for sharing such an uplifting post. I’m curious—what’s one small step you’re taking this week to move closer to your dream life? Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!

  6. Hi Sarah,
I can’t remember how many times I’ve been told: “oh why don’t you grow up!” or the ever popular: “only kids do that!”.
I’ve always kept a child in me close to both my mouth and thoughts. Think of it this way; my wife has been living with a kid for over 30 years!
I have to be honest though, it’s when I forget to be that kid that things usually go crazy and it wasn’t always easy – mostly when you’re a senior Officer in the Army! LOL!
Loved your blog and will definitely look to watch IF – I had heard of it but never had the chance to watch it.
    All the best!

  7. This is such an inspirational post! I’d love to go back to the days when you believed anything was possible looking through the eyes of a child. It is hard when you’ve got all those “grown-up” issues to deal with. Great advice though to come up with a vision board. By the way, that dream house picture is just beautiful. Aaahhh. That is my interpretation of a deeply satisfying sigh.

    1. I read the Aaahhh in a satisfying way, don’t worry! lol It is hard to keep being like a child. It’s not always appropriate but they look at the world with big eyes and hope and that what we need x

  8. Sarah this was a great post I feel like I need to start dreaming again. We often hear others through out our life say “just do the smart thing”. After reading your post I’m more convinced your thoughts about rediscovering our inner pirates ☠️ maybe the best thing. Appreciate as always your perspective.

  9. Hi Sarah,
Auch a great post! It’s a powerful for when we can imagine! As a child I used to day dream often and I was known as the daydreamer and reprimanded in school for it. I know I quit imagining a good life back to my younger days, later teen years and it lasted for about many years. At different times through career changes I’ve imagined for a time but not full and free. This time around, in this affiliate marketing journey, it has been quite refreshing to have no limits on the imagination. I do feel like I need to regularly imagine, as if to re-learn it and exercise my imagination muscles 💪
Thanks for the post, it was encouraging and enlightening to read!

  10. Sarah,
I loved the quote “our imagination took a coffee break” I totally agree that as we grow up we forget how to use our imagination like we did as kids. I remember I could fly! I imagine my dream life and that is what keeps me going to pursue my online business.

  11. This is such an inspiring post. It’s funny how, as you age, your memories become even more important to look back on and cherish. You never realize how lucky you are to have those in your life growing up…until you don’t have them anymore. I want that time back again. Too many wasted opportunities. Too many regrets. There is too much adulting now. I wish I had the wisdom I have now to live life as it was then. I would have cherished those special moments more and appreciated the people in my life, knowing how they can be taken away in a heartbeat. Life can be hard, but it can also be wonderful if you choose to enjoy it.
